Gamification makes visits to museums and exhibitions a new and unusual experience
In his interview to ‘Typical Moscow’ (https://typical-moscow.ru/magiya-muzeev-sekrety-privlecheniya-i-uderzhaniya-posetitelej/) Mikhail Lykov, co-founder of Viszhu shared his opinion on how museum innovations can change visitors’ attitude to exhibitions. One such innovation is gamification or the introduction of game mechanics into non-game environments such as learning, marketing or, in our case, exhibitions.
➡️Distinguished examples:
Micropia Science Museum in Amsterdam. At the museum entrance visitors can take a stamp card and then set out to collect the stamps scattered all over the museum. At the end of the visit, people can place their stamp card under the scanner and the screen will show how many objects visitors saw.
Exhibition complex of the history of civil service. In a VR quest ‘Pneumatic Post’, you should help the characters with their routine work. This is a good way to learn what was paperwork management in the past.
Solving puzzles, collecting achievements, and competitions captivate and engage visitors helping them to dive deeper into the topic of the exhibition. Gamification and awards build an emotional connection between visitors and museums and increase interest in exhibitions. It is a great way to motivate visitors to see the whole exposition!
